The natural aspects within the City of Hamilton include significant frontage on Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment cutting through the landscape.

Hamilton is known for its history of producing steel. Proximity to large power generation facilities and easy access to transportation routes resulted in the growth of large industrial enterprises in the City of Hamilton. Hamilton has transitioned from its industrial oriented past towards more of a medical and research focus with the largest employers today being in medicine and education.
